The second match of 2009/10 UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg will be held at Allianz Arena tonight, where the four-time European champion Bayern Munich are going to face Olympique Lyon. Once again, just same as Barcelona, Lyon need to travel 855km to Munich by buses due to the ash clouds disruption from Icelandic volcano eruption that cause a big halt to European flight industry. Probably this may bring advantage to Bayern whom play at home.

Defending champion, Barcelona will once again travel to Meazza Stadium to challenge Inter Milan in tonight’s 2009/10 UEFA Champions League semi-finals first leg match. Both European football elits had met twice before in group stage earlier this term. Due to the ash cloud from a volcano in Iceland that has wreaked havoc on European air traffic, Barca need to travel by bus for approximately 1,000km to Milan. This may bring extra exhaustive to Barca whom have played 11 matches since 15th MAR, average 1 match in 3 days.

Bordeaux are going to fight back from the 2 goals trailing to grab the ticket of semi-finals when they meet with Olympique Lyon at home tonight in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals second leg match. Bordeaux lost 1-3 to Lyon in the first leg and they need to win by at least 3 goals or 2-0 in order to eliminate their opponent. Whichever team successful go through tonight will become the first team from France enter into semi-finals since 2003/04. Lyon had 5 wins 1 draw 2 loses in last 8 UCL away games. Meanwhile Bordeaux recorded 7 consecutive wins in UCL this term before lost to Lyon last week, including all 4 home matches. But they had just 2 wins 2 draws 4 loses in last 8 games in any competitions. Asian handicap give the odd of Bordeaux let 0.5 goal. This game is tough to predict, as I have not much info and knowledge about the teams from Ligue 1. Anyhow, I will still put my faith on Bordeaux, just same as last week.

Inter Milan need only a draw at Moscow in order to march into the semi-finals for the first time since season 2002/03 when they travel to challenge CSKA Moscow in tonight’s 2009/10 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals second leg. However, they also need to beware of the freezing weather and the artificial turf at CSKA’s stadium. Although CSKA recorded 7 wins 1 draw 1 lose in last 9 European home games, they could only earned 1 win 1 draw 2 loses in last 4 encounters with Italian sides at home. Meanwhile Inter lost once only in last 15 encounters with Russian teams and they had won all the last 4 UCL matches. The odd from Asian handicap is Inter let 0/0.5 goal. I think the Russian side will fight with full force at home tonight and won’t let the Italian side get through easily, although I prefer to see Inter enter into next round. May be at least a draw would be the final result. CSKA Moscow is my pick!

Barcelona will fly to London to challenge Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in tonight’s 2009/10 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 1st leg match tonight. The defending champion recorded only 6 wins in last 28 visits to England, in which the last 4 wins came from the most recent 8 games. Furthermore, although Barca were undefeated in last 10 UCL away games, but they just won once only in last 7 UCL away matches. Meanwhile Arsenal have a record of 27 wins 7 draws at home in last 34 UCL games when facing with non-English teams, in which there are 25 cleansheets. However, Barca are leading the Gunners with 2 wins 1 draw according to head-to-head records between both teams. Asian handicap give the odd of Barca let 0/0.5 goal. For me, I think the Gunners are able to earn a draw at home tonight. Thus, Arsenal are my pick!

Manchester United will fly to Germany to challenge Bayern Munich in tonight’s 2009/10 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals 1st leg match. Bayern were undefeated at home in last 6 UCL encounters and lost once only at home in last 16 encounters with English sides. According to face-to-face records, Bayern are leading with 2 wins 4 draws 1 lose over the Red Devils, in which undefeated at home with 1 win 2 draws. Asian handicap’s odd is MU let 0/0.5 goal. For me, I’ll take Bayern Munich, theoretically base upon the encounter records between both teams. However, Bayern might be cautious of the unfitness of their 2 main players – Arjen Roben and Frank Ribery, and their recent forms in Bundesliga with losing back-to-back in last 2 matches. Meanwhile MU still going strong in English Premier League and their 2 major players – Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand have earned some much needed rest in last week’s EPL matchday. The only thing they need to take in account is the EPL champion-decider super clash with Chelsea on this coming Saturday, which might cause MU fight without full force tonight.
