Venice Film Festival 2010

One of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world, the 67th Venice Film Festival kicked off this year since 1st SEPT and ran through to 11th SEPT 2010 with Quentin Tarantino enlisted as president of the jury. Sofia Coppola followed in her father’s footsteps by winning a Golden Lion at this year’s Venice Film Festival by collected the top trophy with ”Somewhere”, a drama about a Hollywood star who realizes how empty his life is after reconnecting with his 11-year-old daughter.

82nd Academy Awards

Kathryn Bigelow became the biggest winner in 2010 82nd Academy Awards by winning six golden statues for her low-budget Iraq war drama – The Hurt Locker, including both Best Picture and Best Directing awards, which making Bigelow the first women ever in the history of Academy Awards to win the awards. This most anticipating event of the year was held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles just a few hours ago.

15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

The 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards had announced the winners with the finest achievement among 2009 film releases on Friday, 15th JAN 2010 at Hollywood Palladium. James Cameron’s Avatar and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds won the most awards, but the top honour went to Iraq war drama, The Hurt Locker and its director-producer Kathryn Bigelow. The Hurt Locker was named best picture and Kathryn Bigelow best director.

Quentin Tarantino, known for his tributes to film noir (Reservoir Dogs), Blaxploitation (Jackie Brown), Shaw Brothers kung-fu movies (Kill Bill vol.1 & 2) and slasher movies (Death Proof), has now returned with his own version of the war movie: Inglourious Basterds.
