Roti Canai + Teh Tarik = RM1?

July 19th, 2009 3 comments

How much you are willing to pay for one piece of roti canai and teh tarik? The cheapest price I can see is about RM0.70++ for roti canai and RM1.00++ for teh tarik, so total of RM1.70 ++.

In the current economic situation, where most consumer products are quite expensive in Malaysia, we can still find a restaurant right in the heart of a city that sells roti canai + teh tarik for only RM1.00.

The said restaurant is Ukhwah Restoran Rakyat 1Malaysia at busy Lorong Medan Tuanku Satu in Kuala Lumpur (source: The Star). The roti canai and teh tarik’s price at the restaurant are RM0.40 and RM0.60 respectively.

According to the restaurant owner – “Food is a basic need. I don’t believe one should pay a lot for food. Most restaurants make 200% to 300% profit from selling food”. I think that is the attitude that a restaurant owner should have to provide cheaper food for customers.

I think they don’t earn much from sales but they will attract a lot customer to visit their restaurant due to the cheap price.
