Returning for its fifth year, Art Expo Malaysia 2011 will take place start from tomorrow, 28th OCT 2011 to 1st NOV 2011 at MATRADE Exhibition & Convention Centre (MECC), Kuala Lumpur with operation hours from 10:30AM until 7:30PM daily. Admission is free! The exhibition is the country’s most prominent international art event which will see the convergence of the world’s most reputable galleries showcasing the best art around, including works by Picasso, which are rarely seen in this part of the world. With last year’s expo attracting 12,000 visitors and selling RM11million in works, including silkscreens by pop artist Andy Warhol that went for RM2million, this year’s expo aim to grow in leaps and bounds.

Back in AUG 2011, a new self-making short films competition titled MyPhone Shorties had been announced by local leading mobile service provider, Digi Telecommunications with an initiative to promote and celebrate the 1Malaysia spirit in conjunction with Malaysia Day. This contest require the participants to create a short Public Service Announcements (PSA) using the movie-making features on their smartphones by working around the theme of “Terima Kasih, Malaysia”.

The 68th Annual Venice Film Festival, which began from 31st AUG 2011 came to a close with the Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening, 10th SEPT 2011. Asia put in a strong showing in this year’s affair. Hong Kong actress, Deanie Yip won Best Actress Award through her stellar performance in A Simple Life by portrayed a lonely elderly woman with extremely accurate. China’s People Mountain People Sea helped director Cai Shangjun won the Silver Lion in best direction. Meanwhile the Best Actor Award went to Michael Fassbender, who played a New York man struggling with sexual obsession in Shame.

With four years worth of amazing short films behind them, BMW Shorties will be returning for its 2011 edition. BMW Shorties is a short film competition served as a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their talent which has taken place annually since 2007. 220 short films had entered the contest since its first commencement with some of the previous winners’ short films have been screened at many prestigious film festivals including Cannes, New York, Dubai, Oberhausen and Rotterdam.

Japanese toy and video games maker, Bandai announced in MAY 2011 the expansion of a whole new line-up for its Myth Cloth series – Saint Cloth Myth EX, which represents a huge leap in the evolution of the Saint Cloth Myth figure series. For your information, Saint Myth Cloth is a popular toy-line from Bandai based on the Japanese legendary Saint Seiya franchise by Masami Kurumada. The letters EX stand for “exclamation” and reflects the endeavor to create amazement and wonder. Microsoft‘s Xbox 360 and Lucas Arts recently collaborate to present the first custom Xbox 360 console with Kinect featuring a limited edition Star Wars theme inspired by the beloved duo, R2-D2 and C-3PO. This first ever custom Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle was unveiled during a panel presentation at this year’s 41st Annual Comic-Con International. The bundle includes an R2-D2 blue-and-white themed 320GB console, a custom gold wireless controller inspired by C-3PO, the first ever white Kinect sensor and a copy of the Kinect Star Wars video game. The bundle is set to debut on 31st DEC 2011, but is available now for pre-order through participating retailers or via HERE.

Recently the world renowned artist, KAWS partners with Hennessy in a collaborative project on a special edition bottle of Hennessy V.S. Cognac. Each of this KAWS X Hennessy V.S. Cognac Limited Edition Bottle features signature KAWS artwork and is individually numbered, with each bottle bear the words “Friends work music art. It’s important to find the right blend…”. The bottles will hit shelves in this coming SEPT 2011 which appear to be limited to 420,000 and will be sold in 750ml sizes.

Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) will be returning for its 14th year on 8th-10th JUL 2011 at Sarawak Cultural Village, Santubong, Kuching which will be held from 10AM till 12AM daily. RWMF is one of the worlds most unique festival that brings together on the same stage renowned world musicians from around the world and indigenous musicians from the interiors of Borneo. This incredible show that has been running for over 10 years has attracted many music lovers from the world over to the Land of the Hornbills.
