4th Asian Film Awards
The 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA) had been took place at the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Hong Kong on yesterday night, 22nd MAR. Many big-screen heavy hitters showing up last night to accept their awards. Notables included Indian film megastar Amitabh Bachchan who made a gracious acceptance speech for his Lifetime Achievement Award and Chinese director Zhang YiMou, who took home a Special Achievement Awards.

South Korean thriller – Mother, directed by Bong Joon-Ho, became the biggest winner of the night by winning total three awards, which were Best Film, Best Actress and Best Screenwriter. This is the second win for Bong Joon-Ho at AFA.
A total of fourteen awards and three special awards were presented at the glamorous ceremony attended by a dazzling ensemble of celebrities, international guests and prominent figures in film industry. The following is the complete winners’ list of this year’s gala:
- Best Film: Mother (South Korea)
- Best Director: Lu Chuan – City of Life and Death (China)
- Best Actor: Wang XueQi – Bodyguards and Assassins (Hong Kong/China)
- Best Actress: Kim Hye-Ja – Mother (South Korea)
- Best Newcomer: Ng MengHui – At the End of Daybreak (Malaysia/Hong Kong/South Korea)
- Best Supporting Actor: Nicholas Tse – Bodyguards and Assassins (Hong Kong/China)
- Best Supporting Actress: Wai YingHung – At the End of Daybreak (Malaysia/Hong Kong/South Korea)
- Best Screenwriter: Mother (South Korea)
- Best Cinematographer: City of Life and Death (China)
- Best Production Designer: Face (Taiwan)
- Best Composer: Vengeance (Hong Kong)
- Best Editor: Karaoke (Malaysia)
- Best Visual Effects: Thirst (South Korea)
- Best Costume Design: Face (Taiwan)
- Asian Film Award for Lifetime Achievement Award: Amitabh Bachchan (India)
- Asian Film Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema: Zhang YiMou (China)
- Asian Film Award for 2009′s Top-Grossing Film Director: John Woo & Terence Chang – Red Cliff II (Hong Kong)
