The prestigious British Academy Film Awards 2010 (BAFTA) winners list was announced last Sunday, 21st FEB at a glittering and star studded evening at Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. Iraq war drama – The Hurt Locker continued its run as the real awards juggernaut of this season by swept home total six awards from eight nominations, with director Kathryn Bigelow winning the Best Film and Best Director awards.


She also became the first woman in BAFTA history to win the Best Director award, by fought off competition including ex-husband James Cameron, whom had also been nominated in the category with his sci-fi blockbuster – Avatar. The following is the full winners list of this year’s event:

  • Best Film: The Hurt Locker
  • Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow – The Hurt Locker
  • Outstanding British Film: Fish Tank
  • Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer: Duncan Jones - Moon
  • Best Leading Actor: Colin Firth – A Single Man
  • Best Leading Actress: Carey Mulligan – An Education
  • Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz – Inglourious Basterds
  • Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique – Precious
  • Rising Star Award: Kristen Stewart
  • Best Original Screenplay: Mark Boal – The Hurt Locker
  • Best Adapted Screenplay: Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner – Up in the Air
  • Best Animated Film: Up
  • Best Film Not in English Language: A Prophet
  • Best Cinematography: Barry Ackroyd – The Hurt Locker
  • Best Film Editing: Bob Murawski & Chris Innis – The Hurt Locker
  • Best Production Design: Rick Carter, Robert Stromberg & Kim Sinclair – Avatar
  • Best Costume Design: Sandy Powell – The Young Victoria
  • Best Special Visual Effects: Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham & Andrew R. Jones – Avatar
  • Best Makeup & Hair: Jenny Shircore – The Young Victoria
  • Best Music: Michael Giacchino – Up
  • Best Sound: Ray Beckett & Paul N. J. Ottosson – The Hurt Locker
  • Best Short Film: I Do Air
