15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards
The 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards had announced the winners with the finest achievement among 2009 film releases on Friday, 15th JAN 2010 at Hollywood Palladium. James Cameron’s Avatar and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds won the most awards, but the top honour went to Iraq war drama, The Hurt Locker and its director-producer Kathryn Bigelow. The Hurt Locker was named best picture and Kathryn Bigelow best director.
Avatar was named best action movie and it collected a heap of technical awards, including honours for cinematography, editing, art direction, sound and visual effects. Meanwhile the Inglourious Basterds cast was the critics’ pick for best ensemble. The film’s villain, Christoph Waltz, was named best supporting actor and Quentin Tarantino won for his original screenplay.
This year’s event also marks the addition of seven new award categories – Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup, and Best Sound. Additionally, the screen writing category also has been separated into Original Screenplay and Adapted Screenplay.
Winners are chosen by 235 members representing television, radio and online critics of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), the largest film critics’ organization in the United States and Canada. The awards are bestowed annually to honor the finest in cinematic achievement. Eligible films were released in 2009. Historically, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations. Following is the complete list of all winners in each of total 25 categories:
