2009/10 UEFA Champions League Last-16 Draw

2009/10 UEFA Champions League last-16 draw had been made on last Friday, 18th DEC, at UEFA headquarter in Nyon, Switzerland. Sixteen qualified teams this year come from eight countries: three from England, Spain and Italy respectively, two from German and France each, and the remaining three are from Russia, Portugal and Greece.

The club holders, Barcelona will take on Stuttgart in the first knockout round. Like all the group winners, Barcelona will be at home in the second leg of their tie as they continue their bid to become the first team in the UCL era to lift the trophy two years running. Meanwhile Real Madrid, aiming to play in the 22th MAY 2010 final at their own Santiago Bernabeu home, have been drawn with Karim Benzema’s former club Olympique Lyon.

The highlight of the round arguably will be Inter Milan vs Chelsea, which sees Jose Mourinho return to Stamford Bridge with his Inter Milan team to take on the English club now coached by former AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti. The Rossoneri also have English opposition in the shape of Manchester United, who they beat in the 2006/07 UCL semi-finals on their way to winning the trophy. This will also sees David Beckham return to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils and his former mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson.

UCL first knockout round fixture will return on 16th FEB 2010, with first-leg played on 16th/17th FEB and 23rd/24th FEB, second-leg on 9th/10th MAR and 16th/17th MAR. Eight teams qualified from this round would be drew again on 19th MAR to decide the fixtures of last-8 and remaining round.
