2009/10 UEFA Champions League (MD9)

Group E: Debrecen have lost all 4 UCL matches so far in their debut season and have the worst defensive record with 14 goals conceded. They also lost 6 of their last 11 European home games, including the 0-3 lost to Manchester United in 2005/06 UCL qualifying round, their only previous home game against an English club. Meanwhile 5 times champions Liverpool have failed to win any of their last 3 UCL games and won just once in last 10 games in any competitions. However, The Reds have conceded only 4 goals in 9 previous encounters with Hungarian clubs but have scored a mere 6. Liverpool must win tonight to have any hope of reaching the last 16, but they also need France’s Lyon, who are already through, not to lose against Fiorentina in Italy. Otherwise, the EPL side can forget about going any further. Definitely Liverpool and Lyon are the winning side in my prediction.

Group F: This is the group where all 4 sides can still progress. Just 2 points separate top from bottom with Inter Milan leading the group a point ahead of Barcelona and Rubin Kazan with Dynamo Kiev a further point back. Title-holders Barcelona badly need to recover their best home form. They have only 3 wins 2 draws 2 losts in their last 7 UCL games in Spain, but they have not lost any of their last 6 matches against Italian teams and have not conceded a goal in the last 4. Inter Milan have won just 1 of their last 9 UCL games, but are unbeaten in the last 4. Anyhow, due to Barcelona is going to have a decisive week in their season with tonight’s game followed by El Clasico at Nou Camp against Real Madrid on this coming Sunday, I predict that another point with be shared between both of these sides.

Group G: Sevilla have already earned a ticket through the last 16 by leading the group with 10 points. Unirea at second with 5 points, while Stuttgart and Rangers following with 3 points and 2 points respectively, where both sides are still winless in the group. Stuttgart have not win any of their last 10 games in all competitions and they have only 1 win 4 draws 8 losts in last 13 UCL away games. They also lost all of their last 5 games at Scotland. Meanwhile Rangers could only win once in recent 9 UCL games at home, with zero goal scored in 6 of them, but they are unbeaten in their last 8 encounters with German teams, with a consecutive win in last 5 games. Both teams have met 5 times before in UCL group stage, where each side have recorded 2 wins 1 draw 2 losts, including 2 times of Rangers’ 2-1 wins at home. Clearly you can guess which team will be the winning side in my prediction.

Group H: Arsenal is leading this group 4 points ahead of Olympiakos. The Gunners need only a draw tonight to ensure a ticket to the last 16. Despite the only 2 losts to Chelsea and Manchester United, The Gunners are unbeaten in their last 28 UCL home encounters with non-English clubs. Standard Liege have only 1 draw 6 losts in their last 7 games at England and could only win twice in last 16 European away games. Probably Arsenal can progress further by earning a fifth consecutive win over the Belgium side.
